Convention Questions
How can the youth in my group sign up for student conferences?
You do not have to sign up for conferences. The best thing to do is to review the list of options and choose the top two you want to attend for each time slot. Then simply go to your first choice. If it is full, go on to your second choice. Conference listings will be posted on the Web site in late spring 2010.
How do youth leaders sign up for YMI?
You do not have to sign up for YMI; just be there.
How old must you be to attend IYC2010?
IYC is designed for youth who have graduated from the eighth grade up through those graduating from high school.
What if I have junior high youth who want to attend?
Encourage the junior high students to have IYC to look forward to after they graduate from eighth grade. If you feel you have a student who is an exceptional leader who is a seventh grade graduate, we will let you make that call. IYC is designed for high school students, but we trust you to make the decision.
What if I have graduated high school? Isn’t IYC for college age too?
IYC is not geared for college age students; however, we do offer a few breakout conferences for those older students who attend. The reason this has been made available is because often high school graduates attend IYC the year they graduate high school and need transitional conferences since they are no longer "youth." College-age students are welcome. Many come as counselors with their group if they are at least eighteen years of age; they just need to understand that the target audience for IYC is high school students.
Why would I want to come to IYC?
IYC is a proven opportunity for life change. Groups have found over and over again that the Lord works in miraculous ways through times set aside for community fellowship. Read testimonies from attendees: click here.
Can I bring my child to the convention?
All individuals attending IYC2010 must be registered in order to participate. This is a high school event; therefore, we discourage you from bringing younger children. If it is absolutely necessary to bring a younger child to the convention, the child must be registered, regardless of age. Anyone five years old or older must pay the full registration fee.
What type of seating will there be for the main sessions at IYC2010?
We will all be in one arena at IYC2010.
I am a counselor. Do I need to sign a waiver/liability form?
Yes. Everyone attending IYC must sign a waiver/liability form.
If I send in my registration money without the forms, am I considered registered?
No. You need to send in complete registration information and waiver with your registration fees.
Do I bring the kids in my group who are not very committed to the Lord?
By all means. Bring the whole group! You will find that this experience is all about life change.
I don't have a youth leader. Can I still come?
You must be a part of a youth group to come to IYC. If you do not have a youth leader, contact the Churches of God in your area to see if you can connect with one of their youth groups. We have found that groups are usually very willing to accept others as long as you follow their guidelines, meet their deadlines for getting money in, and attend meetings with them as part of their group in preparation for IYC.
Will there be a Spread the Word offering time at IYC2010?
Yes. We are asking everyone to bring $20 for the STW offering.
Why do the dates for IYC change from year to year?
Rates of hotels and city availability play into what dates we choose. IYC2010 is July 15–18, 2010. IYC2012 will be July 4–7, 2012 in Denver, Colorado.
Mission Experience Information
Can my group still attend the mission experience celebration if we take a different mission experience than one that is listed?
Since we are only offering one mission experience, we will celebrate within that experience rather than at IYC.
If we are arriving on July 14 because our mission experience ends that day, are we supposed to arrive on July 14 at the hotel we will be staying in for IYC or should we make other arrangements? If we go to the hotel we will be staying in for IYC, do we get the IYC price or will we have to pay more since we are early?
You are encouraged to book your reservation at an IYC hotel. Each hotel will honor the IYC price if rooms are available at that price.

How can I get more registration magazines? Do they cost anything?
Registration magazines were mailed to churches in May 2009, and a second updated one will be mailed in Spring of 2010. You can download a free copy by right-clicking here (Magazine 1) or here (Magazine 2) and selecting Save Target As... Additional copies are available at $3.00 per copy, payable by credit card at the time of order. You may call in your order to Sandina at 800-848-2464, ext. 2172. Please make sure to give us the credit card information and full name and address of the youth leader to whom they should be mailed.
What is the pre-convention prayer walk and who can attend?
The pre-convention prayer walk is on Thursday, July 15, from 10 am until noon. This prayer walk will be led by the Student Leadership Team. Those attending will worship together and then divide into groups to prayer walk the areas where activities will be happening during IYC to make sure every place is covered in prayer.
Anyone can attend. You do not have to have checked in with us or wear your wristbands to get into this service. You can check in and pick up your wristbands after this service. Wristbands will not be checked for the prayer walk. Come early as this service continues to grow and space is limited.
Is Tipping important?
As you and your youth group plan your trip to the International Youth convention, do not forget to figure in money for tips.
Did you know that it is said that TIP means “to insure promptness”? Whether or not this definition is true, a tip certainly shows our appreciation. Christians sometimes get a bad rap for not being great tippers. This IYC, let’s show others the generosity that Christ has shown to us. Youth of the Church of God, let’s be a blessing to the people of Orlando!
Here are some general guidelines that may be helpful as you and your youth group considers the costs.
